New WASH Program Launched in Haiti

Celebrate with us! Today we launched our first WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) Program in Haiti near Port au Prince, and some of our stateside staff visited to experience it first-hand.

We get giddy when we realize that these communities aren't JUST receving a cup of water in Jesus' name—with the right training, they'll keep enjoying clean water for life!

With a lot of prayer, and a sustainable strategy, it can happen. In our WASH philosophy we say drilling a well isn't the complete answer to community development. To see real improvement, a community must recognize the need for their own involvement in the solution—and that takes time. Our WASH Program Area approach spans three to five years, producing multiple coordinated water points throughout neighboring communities where members are empowered to maintain their own water solutions. We don't just provide water access. WASH engages an entire community toward lasting behavior change, so it can stand on its own for years to come.

You'll hear more from us about new things happening in Haiti in the coming months. We'll be sure to share a few more cute kid photos, too. Have any questions about our WASH strategy? Let us know in the comments.
