We're celebrating 25 years of clean water work on World Water Day, Sunday, March 22—join us! Established by the United Nations in 1990, the day celebrates water work and encourages advocacy for the millions of children and adults who lack access to clean water.
This year’s theme, “Water and Sustainable Development,” is supported by Living Water International’s work in:
- WASH Sector Leadership—Taking a lead role among WASH organizations, Living Water is the founder of Accord WASH Alliance and first to adapt the Community Health Club model of voluntary, community-based promotion of safe hygiene to the western hemisphere. In close partnership with the Government of Rwanda, Living Water also installed nearly 200 SweetSense sensors on hand pumps and trained communities to use them for pump repairs.
- Houston awareness—Team Living Water, our group for fundraising endurance activities and races, will participate in the Run Houston! Minute Maid Park 5K on Saturday for World Water Day. Houston is Living Water’s home base for organizational leadership, equipment construction, 50 percent of raised funds, and its annual, multi-million-dollar gala fundraiser.
- 25+ Drill Trips in March—For Living Water's 25th anniversary, we will lead a minimum of 25 drill trips to Central America in March alone. Teams of students, moms, C-suite executives and others will drill shallow-water wells and facilitate WASH education for sustainable, long-term community change.
In 2014, Living Water raised $25.5 million, providing more than 1,346 communities in more than 20 countries with clean water. Help us make #WorldWaterDay something truly worth celebrating!
