Living Water

God has Remembered Us

UGANDA – Kemironko, Ntungamo District

GPS: 00 57.862 S, 030 22.312 E

Kemironko is at the top of a very steep hill with a very bad road leading to the school. It is perhaps the most remote and difficult to reach location in the entire district. A man named Augustine told us, "We don't get any relief or development here because people do not want to come visit us."

Augustine took us to the place where they gather water—little more than a mud hole. The water catchment tank in their village was abandoned when the people building it ran out of money. Members of this community rarely wash their hands, bathe, or brush their teeth. When water is this scarce, these things seem unimportant. Typhoid, dysentery, diarrhea, worms, and malaria are widespread in Kemironko.

Living Water International was able to rehabilitate the 75,000 liter rain catchment system here—but water alone wasn't going to be enough to transform this community.

Our team was able to deliver several days of health and hygiene instruction as well as evangelism training for six community leaders. On the first day of training, one of the Chairmen of the Ruhaama district came urged the participants to not leave the information in the classroom, but to go out into the community and train others with this knowledge.

After the training was complete, one of the participants shared with the entire group, "We have learned much from this training that is greater than money and food. We now have much knowledge about God and we will teach this to our friends and we are sure people will change. Our village would be transformed". We told them that they are now the agents of change for their community. Kemironko is no longer a forgotten place, and Augustine is thankful. "God has remembered us and gives us water," he says.
