It is possible for the Church
to end extreme poverty in our lifetime.
Hard to believe? It seems impossible. Today, 1.4 billion people struggle to survive in extreme poverty. But here’s some amazing news: extreme poverty is on the decline. 52% of the world's population once lived in extreme poverty. That number is now 26%—and that percentage was reduced in one generation.
Just imagine what we could do. In our lifetime, we could get that number to zero.
It is time for our low expectations to change. The stakes have never been higher. The news has never been better. And the global church has never been more ready.
Enter the 58: Alliance, an unprecedented, action-based, global alliance of Christians, churches and world-class poverty-fighting organizations working together to end extreme poverty in our lifetime. 58: is inspired by Isaiah 58: “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet…if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.” The 58 Alliance is asks what the True Fast of Isaiah looks like today... for you.
God asks us to attempt great things and expect great things. And so we will... with new evidence, new strategies, new insights into what Isaiah 58 is all about: the end of idle words, the beginning of authentic action. The strategy begins with you (yes, we know you've heard that before). But it's more than you. This is a collective vision. Many organizations, one goal. Many churches, one passion. Many leaders, one voice.
