HAITI – Sarbrusse, Leogane

In many places like Sarbrusse, clean water has to be trucked into the community
each day and stored in these large plastic bags. Makeshift shelters sprout up around the water source (you can see the tents and tarps behind the water bags in this photo). And while the trucked-in water is a great provision for the thirsty people of Sarbrusse, it’s not a permanent one. If the truck breaks down, the community has no other choice but to wait for the truck to come the next day…or the next…or the next.
That’s why Living Water is empowering Haitians to restore disabled hand pumps and broken wells throughout the country. The newly restored well in Sarbrusse can generate more than enough water for the needs of the 600 people living here—and they don’t have to depend on the truck. Now, they can depend on each other.
